Most machinists and production personnel think that engineers are all theory and no common sense. They are not completely wrong. When you have to machine your own design, you will design very differently.
Usually, I will machine my own parts if time allows it and external shops are being unreasonable with lead time and price.
The details are all done by CAM.
Sometimes parts can appear simple, but the dimensional and positional tolerance is what makes it difficult.
My friends benefit from my machining skills as well. Their fridge handle has been broken for a few years. So, here's a scrap metal handle!
